A few reasons why you should change the oil yourself. We bought this BMW from car Auction hit in the front. It was really good deal and you can check out the video here:

We were doing oil change and we found out so many things that the previous place that change the oil did wrong.
1. They never replaced the o-rings on the oil filter.
2. They dropped a washer in the oil filter housing.
3. The oil capacity on this BMW is 6.5 liters and it had over 9 liters in the engine. ( I am surprised it still runs)

Those are some of the reasons why you should change the oil yourself.

  1. What the actual fuck?! When I worked at a dealer, we had a guy come in with the same issue. He had toped off the oil, 20l of oil in a 350ci hemi! It was under warranty so we replaced it.

  2. I have a used ‘08 750i. Worse model ever made. Was changing out the coolant expansion tank and noticed a oil cap wedged in between the lower part of the engine bay and the engine block. Which means whoever did the oil change for the previous owner, dropped the cap and didn’t bother fishing it out. The “tech” just put a new cap on instead and left that cap down there. No telling how long that cap was just hanging out down there. Which is why I do as much as I can myself.

  3. I'm surprised you guys don't suction oil out through dipstick tube instead of using drain plug underneath. I think is a good idea to change filter every 2500 miles since it's up on top & easily done regardless of oil change intervals. I recommend to check the pleats of that filter for slivers of metal & use a magnet to determine if they're iron or aluminum since history is sketchy. Lastly, important when putting on o-rings that can roll & twist to get those twists out before seating them in place or twist can kink & cause leaks.

  4. Last time I let someone change the oil on my car, I provided them with the oil and filter I wanted so there would be less of a chance of them screwing it up. Well, they almost stripped the oil drain plug. I almost think they tightened it with an impact wrench (probably not but it was really tight). They had one job and they screwed up something. My mother had someone change the oil in her car a few times over the years. Now I do it. I've seen them overfill, underfill, use the cheapest oil on the planet from the looks of it, oil that was too thin, oil that was too thick, the worst filters in the world, and so forth. For how easy it is to change oil, it's just better to do it yourself and get a quality oil and filter.
