Awesome fast car review: 2014 Ford Fusion Energi Chilly Drive and Review

( ) The 2014 Ford Fusion Energi is a plugin hybrid with a European flair for the dramatic. With a combined MPGe of 100, the 2014 Ford Fusion Energi is also very fuel efficient when driven on a full charge. In another accurate, fun and informative TFLcar review, Nathan drives the plugin hybrid on a very cold and chilly Colorado morning to see how it performs.

  1. Disclaimer: The reviewer is rather ignorant. The Michelin tires are low-resistance all-season tires, not "Mud & Snow". No low-resistance tires are M&S tires.

  2. Thanks for the video. Was looking at the Volt for my commute, but this seems more roomy. Would like to drive wherever this is instead of in horrid LA traffic.

  3. Is it me, or did Ford take the general aesthetics from the Aston Martin DB9? Not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, but there are quite a few parallels.

  4. the whole point of a plugin hybrid is if you dont travel far from home most of the time, so you dont use a drop of gas, whereas a hybrid depends on the gas engine at all times.

  5. Nathan: reason this model is offered is:

    1) You get 4K federal tax credit. In CA you get additional $1500 on top of that
    2) In CA you get carpool HOV access (until these stickers run out this year)
    3) If you drive less than 20 miles a day you won't have to spend any money on gas

Main market is really CA and it's selling decent there (all of US sales was 6K in 2013). Certainly cargo space is limited and you wonder why didn't Ford take the European Fusion liftback to improve access and space. But for car commuter car it certainly has advantages in CA.

  6. Also, review mirror without a proper module case to cover the wiring is pretty inexcusable today. Am exposed wire like that looks tacky and cheap. It's. Shame, because otherwise the interior is very good.

  7. In FWD with the Ecoboost it is a torque steering pig.. needs the AWD for the Ecoboost… I do like the front end of the Fusion more than my SHO…

  8. The interior materials in this car are fantastic. I sat in one at an auto show and everything is soft touch, even in the back seats and the areas between the seat and the center console.

  9. Please tell me you actually charged it this time. Last time you compared the cmax energi and tested it uncharged in the mpg comparison to the diesel jetta I think it was.

  10. I have to admit the Fusion looks really good in that dark gray color.  Oh and by the way Nathan alittle more than half of all Fusions are made in Mexico while the other half are built alongside the Mustang at the Flat Rock plant.

  11. It's a massive car, could carry 5 people but hold no luggage?
My hatchback can do the same but i've got enough room for 3 suitcases.

Bit of a logic fail having a huge car that's so impractical.

  12. Given the price jump from hybrid to plug in hybrid it does not make any economic sense. Wonder if Ford built it as a rule beater which allows it to be meet state mandates for mixes of cars by type, gas, hybrid, plug in etc.
Nice looking as are all the Fusions.
