  1. Hi Thomas, the last time I wrote to you asking for your advices between Macan base model vs AMG43 GLC. But now I think this is the one to go for, value-wise. I can have XC40 T5 R design for 60,000€ while
I have to pay 150,000€ for Macan 4 cylinders or 120,000€ for GLC43. I know it will not be as great as a driver ‘s car as a Porsche, but at this price difference, I accept it. I tried GLC43 I felt it lacked mid range torque, need to rev hard, unsuitable for out of track use. Thanks for the review. And do you like it in R Design Blue ? I lov it.

  2. Great review once again. I have an offer to buy either Volvo XC40 D3 diesel FWD Aut Momentum or BMW X1 18d Xdrive Xline Aut both full LED 18 inch rims, Volvo has android auto, harman kardon hifi, sensus navigation and BMW has park assist, large panoramic sunroof, Xdrive.

Also BMW X1 is little cheaper, and my last car was BMW 1 series. Is it better to buy this X1 and stick to BMW or go ahead and try Volvo XC40. Never owned a Volvo before. I appreciate Your opinion Thomas

  3. This car is a real breath of fresh air in the small compact luxury SUVs/crossovers. The interiors and exteriors are serene and classy.
    Autogefuhl review is top notch.

  4. A little pricey, yes…. but I feel like Volvo offers a lot of car for the money. Just hope build quality is good in the longer term.,

  5. Thomas, you said * 8 liters per 100 Kilometers * was too much fuel consumption for (both) XC40 & 300 HP Land Rover Velar!! Both statements cannot be true. Sounds like (any) fuel consumption is too much for you until we all drive electric!!

  6. Thomas, you said * liters per 100 Kilometers * was too much fuel consumption for (both) XC40 & 300 HP Land Rover Velar!! Both statements cannot be true. Sounds like (any) fuel consumption is too much for you until we all drive electric!!

  7. Hi Thomas,
Just one question: is the driver’s seat big enough for you to get in/out and drive? How about the comfortability in terms of vision?

I’m 6’2, about same height as you.

    Please reply !! ☺ thanks!

  8. The exhausts are not fake.. Love the fact that you want cloth instead of leather. No unnecessery killing of animals just for us humans to have something to sit on!

  9. Thomas, thank you for the great review! Sadly in Greece, due to the overwhelming taxes nowadays (still trying to pay you back guys for helping us with the crisis), the 2 litre versions are not affordable, so the 1.5 T3 Manual will be the best selling version here. When can we expect that review from you? Maybe a comparison test against the 3008 1.2 or 1.6 petrol? Again, great job!

  10. That orange coloring is going to look ratty after about the first 8 months especially if you have young children.  So, Volvo made not have thought this out very well

  11. I am amazed that Volvo was able to develop the XC40 so fast and so perfect. Here in Canada we will be getting the T4 with 180HP lather. The car is a hit for Volvo Canada already after being introduced 2 weeks ago.

  12. Cannot wait to have you review the new V60 wagons, which look unbelievable, as you noted in your style review. They are priced closer to the XC40 SUV's than the XC60 SUV's, so price wise may be competitive to this, but appear to offer so much more.

  13. So the question is: X1 or XC40? A brand new car or a >2yrs old classic ? What I have noticed is that the interiors materials of the BMW are at a higher lever than the XC40. What do you think?

  14. This car is ~30% too expensive taking into account it real functionality and practicality. The Volvo badge must cost but this time it is just too much (this is also true for some Germans like X1 or Q2 ).
For that money there are another alternatives e.g ….Volvo XC60 or Subaru Forester, both offering more car for that money.

  15. Hi Thomas I've an "old" Xc60 r-Design don't you find the steering of these new Volvo a bit light feeling for who likes some sport driving, I also think as you that detalis and materials are more nice and "fresh" in this xc40 than xc60. I also hate the glossy black in the interiors !

  16. Great review. Im in the market to buy a small premium suv & narrowed down to this model, Skoda or new X3. Yes its expensive for a small vehicle but for the top 1st Edition model still considerably cheaper than BMW X3. This review has been a big help. Keep up the good work.

  17. Thomas , I want to buy a car and I have not decided between Volvo XC40 T5 and Porsche Macan which is 15,000 euros more expensive. What is your opinion?

  18. Here's my issue with this. I priced an R design like I'd want, not loaded, but nice wheels, and it was about $43,000 US. And for the first 6 months at least it will sell at about MSRP. Then I look at something like a Kia Sportage SX which has even more equipment, and with discounts they're about $30,000. They also, unlike many Kias, resale well. And it has a 5 year /10 year warranty, vs Volvo's 4. So it's about 50% more for a slight quickness advantage and some nicer interior materials. And as a Volvo owner I know they aren't cheap to fix out of warranty. Mainstream brand compact SUVs have advanced so far in the past few years it's hard to justify the price difference for a slightly more refined experience.
